Spreading one asset across multiple mediums

For 2013 Sony asked us to create training guides for their Handycam camcorders and Cyber-shot cameras. Using assets from the 2012 guides and new material for additions to each series, we developed a fresh new look and streamlined layout. A unique aspect of this project was that the print guides – featuring only the technology section – would also have to be transcribed into a fully interactive app, in their entirety.

Standard problems emerged such as inhomogeneous source files – cameras with different shadow treatments and poor lifestyle image quality – for us to deal with in Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. The project was an exercise in paying close attention to detail, developing master pages and style sheets, to create a cohesive look and feel.

With the final print guide near completion, we began the app. Using the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS) we adjusting the layout where necessary to fit the guide to the digital platform.

By developing these guides as both print and digital assets, the scope of their utility was increased. For training purposes and in-store marketing the print guide offers a tangible education tool for sales-people to use. The app allows consumers to browse individual products and associated technologies at their own pace, to identify exactly which product is right for them.
